Grounded Recovery

Built by us.
Grown together.

Grounded Recovery is a planned weekend horticultural program at Green Ridge House, led by Joe Van Wie and Amelia Cruciani.

The program will connect an indoor propagation and soil workspace with the garden outdoors. Participants will follow plants from germination through growth, care, and the food they can bring to the table.

The first phase will focus on creating the space together: preparing the room, assembling benches, organizing tools, planning plantings, and learning how to care for seedlings. There will be different ways to contribute, from hands-on building to documenting growth and tending plants.

Small actions.
Visible progress.

01 · Start

From seed to seedling

Explore soil, germination, propagation, and the conditions plants need. Practice attention through watering, observation, and keeping track of change.

02 · Tend

Care that becomes a habit

Plan seasonal tasks, care for tools, prune, and work alongside others. The garden will offer practical ways to exercise choice, share responsibility, and follow through.

03 · Grow

Food and habitat

Grow herbs and vegetables while making room for native plants and pollinator habitat. Connect everyday care with nourishment and the living world around us.

Recovery in everyday life

Hands in soil.
Connection in practice.

Planting, tending, and working together will create opportunities to practice patience, cooperation, and the ability to make meaningful choices. Progress will be something participants can notice, care for, and help shape.

The program is intended to support connection and purposeful activity in recovery through direct, physical experience. It will sit alongside Fellowship House’s clinical care and wider community support.
