Fellowship House was founded by lifelong friends\u00a0Lawrence J. Moran, Jr.<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Joe Van Wie<\/span><\/b>, both in long-term recovery. For decades, individuals and families have chosen this region as a launchpad for recovery, drawn by its accessibility, safety, and unmatched sense of\u00a0local pride and service<\/b>.<\/p>\n

From the\u00a0nation\u2019s first Treatment Court model<\/b>\u00a0to an array of\u00a0peer-led recovery programs<\/b>, Scranton leads with innovation and compassion. In a place where\u00a0John Mitchell and the labor movement<\/b>\u00a0fought for human dignity and equity, Fellowship House carries that tradition forward\u2014offering care that is just, inclusive, and transformative.<\/p>\n

In 1982, the\u00a0Scranton family<\/b>\u00a0donated their summer home in Waverly, PA, to create\u00a0Marworth<\/b>, one of the country\u2019s most respected treatment centers. Today,\u00a0Fellowship House<\/b>\u00a0continues that legacy by restoring historic spaces\u2014like\u00a0Green Ridge House<\/b>\u2014into dignified, community-based sanctuaries for recovery.<\/p>\n

A New Chapter Begins At Greenridge<\/h2><\/div><\/div>

In late 2023, under bright sunshine and a ripple of applause, local leaders and the Fellowship House team cut the ribbon on Green Ridge\u2019s newest chapter<\/a><\/span>. Located at 1554 Sanderson Avenue, the house, an elegant three-story Victorian in a vibrant Scranton neighborhood, thrives as a beacon of long-term recovery. Inside, participants find shared living spaces bathed in natural light, a fully-equipped kitchen, and comfortable lounges that ease the initial transition from crisis to community<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Green Ridge marks a departure from secluded, rural retreats\u2014it\u2019s an urban sanctuary integrated with the city\u2019s pulse. Just blocks from universities and downtown, participants engage in real-world routines: morning coffee runs, volunteer roles, and weekend jobs that anchor recovery in everyday living, moving beyond the myth that healing only happens “in the woods”<\/span><\/p>\n
