    Biography

Author • Educator • Recovery Mentor

Dr. GiGi Langer brings more than 30 years of lived experience and professional expertise to the pursuit of inner peace, emotional clarity, and personal growth. Once reliant on alcohol, romantic idealism, and career accolades to calm her anxious mind, GiGi’s real transformation began after she gave up drinking—and discovered that the deeper challenge was her thinking. Through decades of study and self-inquiry, GiGi has drawn on evidence-based tools from psychology, recovery programs, cognitive therapy, energy work, and a range of spiritual and philosophical teachings to help others overcome worry, self-doubt, and fear. Known for her warm wisdom and authentic voice, she is now a sought-after speaker, author, and mentor to those navigating life transitions, emotional overload, and recovery journeys.

GiGi holds a Ph.D. in Psychological Studies in Education and an M.A. in Psychology from Stanford University. As a professor at Eastern Michigan University, she earned multiple honors for her teaching, including the Distinguished Faculty Member award from the Michigan Association of Governing Boards and the EMU Alumni Association’s Teaching Excellence Award. Under her academic name, Georgea M. Langer, she co-authored five books and hundreds of articles on education and human development.

Her personal evolution is captured in her award-winning book, 50 Ways to Worry Less Now: Reject Negative Thinking to Find Peace, Clarity, and Connection, as well as her newest release, Love More Now. Originally intended as a memoir of her life’s many adventures—including three short marriages, a professional horseback riding career, and hitchhiking across northern Spain—her husband gently suggested she write something more practical: a self-help guide based on the tools she shares in personal conversations. The result is a powerful, relatable resource for those seeking emotional well-being and spiritual strength.

Now over 30 years sober, GiGi lives joyfully with her beloved husband, Peter, and their spirited cat, Murphy. Though free from addictive substances, she freely admits to occasional overindulgence in Ghirardelli chocolate and historical fiction.

Whether through her books, speaking, or one-on-one guidance, Dr. GiGi Langer helps others reclaim joy, resilience, and peace—no matter what life throws their way.
